A check-up is a preventive dental treatment comprising a comprehensive examination of your mouth and teeth, including:
- Soft tissues in the mouth, such as your tongue, cheeks and throat. We always take great care to check for any early signs of oral cancer.
- The alignment of the jaw and how your upper and lower teeth fit together.
- Damage to teeth and issues including broken or worn teeth and decay.
- Signs that you may be clenching or grinding your teeth.
- An examination of your gums and signs of gum (periodontal) disease.
- The condition of past dental restorations such as fillings, crowns, bridges or veneers.
During a dental check-up, digital imagery is often essential for diagnosing the causes of pain or discomfort and to help with planning your treatment.
We may need to take digital X-rays or scans to examine the areas between, inside and under your teeth, including the gum and jawbone.
We’ll always clearly explain the most appropriate options to you, and you’ll receive a written estimate detailing the schedule and cost of your bespoke dental treatment plan.
When you come in for a check-up, we also frequently recommend that you see one of our dental hygienists at the same time.
Deep cleaning with a scale and polish or Air-Flow treatment is an effective way to stay on top of plaque and tartar, which continually forms around the gum line.
Regular professional dental cleaning can help you maintain optimal oral health for an all-round, great-looking smile every day.
